Adaptive Energy Intelligence: Rethinking Distributed Power Systems
Summary
This research initiative explores how distributed energy infrastructure can evolve into an adaptive cyber-physical system in which storage, generation, controllable loads, and grid interfaces are coordinated through local intelligence and network-level optimization. The work focuses on distributed control, predictive modelling, autonomous operation, energy scheduling, resilience, and the interaction between edge-based decision-making and broader electrical network conditions. The research also examines how distributed storage and intelligent control can reduce peak demand, buffer high-power loads, improve utilization of existing infrastructure, and support more resilient operation under grid or communications disturbances. Through simulation, hardware-in-the-loop testing, and field experimentation, the program aims to establish practical energy-system architectures that are increasingly observable, programmable, cooperative, and able to adapt to changing physical and operational conditions.
